Philip de Roo - Polar Explorer

I've always loved being in the great outdoors. Nordic skiing, mountaineering, and winter climbing are among my favourite activities. In 2000 (age 15) I was chosen to go to Antarctica for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to take part in research on climate change, and it was during this experience that I fell in love with the polar regions. In 2004 I skied the last degree to the North Pole; I was then 19 years old. In 2006 I served as assistant expedition leader for the Ben & Jerry's Climate Change College. Then in 2007 I crossed the Greenland icecap from east to west during an unsupported expedition lasting 26 days (Isortoq- Kangerlussuaq), and in 2008 I completed an unsupported south–north crossing of the Greenland icecap in 32 days, 2300km (Narsarsuaq – Qaanaaq).

With IceScapes.tv I want to share with you how beautiful these polar regions are with the hope that you will come to understand that we must treat these areas with great care. I also hope you'll enjoy sharing in my journey!

Armand Dijcks - Producer

I like telling stories using visual media such as video and photography, especially stories relating to the exploration of our planet. For PoleTrack, an international expedition to the North Pole (2004-2005), I served as base camp coordinator, handled all PR and communications, and shared their story online. In 2005 I created an easily understandable visualization showing the positions of scientific beacons on the arctic ice for Ben and Jerry's Climate Change College, an international arctic education project.  For climbing expeditions on K2 (the 2nd highest mountain on earth) and Broad Peak (12th highest), I designed and created a mashup visualization of the climbers' route using Google Earth. In 2008 I conceived of and produced the video podcast series for the Notice Expedition, a two-stage crossing of the Greenland icecap from east-west and south-north during 2007-2008.

My hope is that you enjoy the fascinating stories shared on IceScapes.tv and feel as if you were there!
